Victorious Gaelic Football Team!

There was a real buzz of excitement in the school over the last couple of weeks when our 5th/6th class Gaelic Football team qualified for their first ever Fingal League Final.

The final was fixed for the splendid GAA Development Centre in Abbotstown on Thursday 16th May and would see us go up against Hedgestown NS. The Parent Association very generously sponsored new shorts and socks for the school and the team were very appreciative of getting to be fully kitted out for the big day. There was also some brilliant work done by our parents in the lead up to the game with handmade posters and flags being made for our travelling supporters who were cheering on the team in Abbotstown. As for the game itself, the children were a bit nervous beforehand but their coaches Mr Mc Elligott and Mr Garvey assured them that the whole school community was so proud of all that they had achieved so far and to simply go out and give it their all – and this they most certainly did!

It was a fascinating first half as Hedgestown took an early lead before Scoil Chormaic replied with some fantastic points and well-worked goals. However, Hedgestown were proving to be a very tough opponent and came back strongly just before half time to take a one point lead into the interval. After getting a much needed drink of water and some oranges for an energy top up, the team were ready for the second half! Their teamwork, encouragement and outstanding skills really came to the fore in the second half and all of our panel members played their part in ensuring that we won by a margin of 7 points in the end. The final scoreline was Scoil Chormaic 6 – 12 to Hedgestown 7 – 2.

The team shook hands with their opponents after the game and acknowledged that it had been a fabulous game of football between two super teams. The team then celebrated with our supporters before receiving their medals and finally getting to lift the cup aloft! Star Bus company then kindly brought the team for a well-deserved post match meal before we made our way back to the school. Here we were met in the yard by a lovely welcome home reception from the rest of the children and staff! A massive thank you to all the staff and parents who contributed to this success and most importantly, well done to the team who have proven to be such brilliant role models for the rest of the children of Scoil Chormaic CNS!

Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí!
