A Marvelous May in Room 1

We had a marvelous month in Room 1 this May. It is our last term of school and while it is very busy, we are having a blast between literacy, Maths stations, Art, PE, preparing for Intercultural Week and of course, playtime! Here is a little snapshot showing what we have got up to!

Our Aistear theme was the hairdressers and the style was second-to-none in Junior Infants! The children spent the month washing, drying, dying, cutting and styling hair and even made some of their own hairdressing equipment!

In Literacy, we have been working very hard on our reading and writing. We love practicing handwriting on our mini-whiteboards and in the sand! We continued working on our procedural writing and even learned about and wrote about making our own butter! We also started our ‘Writing Workshop’ during the month of May and the children are developing into quite the authors. I am amazed at how creative the stories are in Room 1.

In Maths, we have continued working on our partitioning and combining and the children have really enjoyed exploring this using concrete materials. Just have a look at some of these Numicon towers! As always, the children have been quite the Mathematicians during the Maths Stations. They particularly enjoyed exploring weight and finding out how many unifix cubes weighed the same as some items in the classroom!

We also had a fabulous month of beautiful artwork. Our favourite pieces had to be painting Thiebaud-inspired gumball machines and of course, colouring in the Rainbow fish!

Overall, we had another fun-filled and successful month in Junior Infants. There is only one month to go in Junior Infants and with lots of exciting events planned, we are so excited to see what June brings. Watch this space!
