These can be used to help with homework, if your child needs additional help with sounds or simply for fun. The following is a link to lots of different Jollyphonic resources: http://jollylearning.co.uk/gallery/ You can also find the jollyphonic songs that we listen to in class here and the actions that go with them: And here is the link for our digraph sounds: Finally in relation to Jollyphonics there is an app you can purchase in the Google play store for Android phones and the app store for apple phones. This app goes through all of the letter sounds and also helps your child with beginning to blend their letters for reading and identify sounds in words for spelling. Here is the link for more information on the app if you would like to download it http://jollylearning.co.uk/jolly-phonics-letter-sounds-app-2/   Maths A parent inquired yesterday about maths homework for the children in Senior Infants.  At the moment the children are just receiving English homework such as word boxes and letter practice along with oral language homework based on their letter sound.  They will  be receiving maths homework in due course. The start of the year so far in Ms Tracey’s Senior Infants

It has been a busy first few weeks in Senior Infants with Ms. Tracey’s class.  Firstly I would like to thank all parents for their great support with Class Dojo.  The children are really enjoying it and it is a great tool to keep the communication line open between teacher and parent. While Dojo is fantastic to share what we have been doing in class with the children’s parents, sometimes Grandparents or family abroad may also be interested in what your child is up to in school.  I will therefor try my best to update the school website every few weeks with a snapshot of what we have been getting up to in class. Learning about Houses Last week we took advantage of the gorgeous weather and along with some very helpful parents (Thank you again) we took a walk around the area to identify the different types of houses we have been learning about.  The children got to take the ipads and did a great job at sharing them around so that everybody could get a chance at taking some photos of different types of houses.  The children found terraced, semi-detached, detached houses and also apartments. We unfortunately did not come across any bungalows or cottages 🙁  When the children returned to the classroom they got to look at the photographs they had taken and also draw pictures of the houses they had seen. Have a look to see the children really enjoying this lesson outdoors!     Myself , My Family and Home As you are aware in Senior Infants the children took part in Aistear. Aistear...

Co-Teaching at Scoil Chormaic

We are delighted to be in a position to offer Co-Teaching as an approach to Additional Teaching Support in Scoil Chormaic this year. What is co-teaching? Co-teaching provides specialised services to individual students in a generally shared space (the classroom). It is one of the fastest growing inclusive practices in school. It involves two or more teachers working together to teach the students. In this environment, teachers blend their expertise, share materials and develop common teaching goals.   What does it mean for the children? It means there will be two or three teachers in their classroom for defined periods of the day delivering instruction. It means withdrawing children from their classroom for additional teaching support will be limited to the minimum need. It means all children will avail of additional teaching support and will have contact with an Additional Needs Teacher.   What are the benefits? Co-teaching allows children with additional support needs to be educated in the least restrictive environment possible; There is a reduced pupil-teacher ratio during co-teaching; Support teachers can access and target a greater number of children; The stigma attached to withdrawal is reduced or removed; Classroom teachers have a greater role in addressing differentiated needs; It improves access for students with additional educational needs through collaborative teaching; Teaching takes place in a single physical space and children are not separated from their peers; Teachers work as a team to introduce new content, work on developing skills, clarify information, and facilitate learning and classroom management; There are fewer classroom behavioural concerns; There is a shared understanding and use of common assessment data among teachers;...

Welcome Back to Senior Infants!

Our Senior Infant boys and girls have settled back into school after the summer break. We have had great fun playing with our friends both in class and on the yard. This week, we are focusing on putting our hands up to speak instead of shouting out. Well done to everyone for their hard work. We are looking forward to a busy year together!...
