We have had a busy few weeks in 1st class, we have been working very hard!
Here are some of the things we have been up to!
This is our Class Pledge! We say it every morning to remind ourselves to try our best!
We have been learning about school and classroom rules, ourselves and our talents. We have also been talking about foods that are healthy and unhealthy and we have planned a healthy meal for a celebrity using the food pyramid! We also practice ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ and we met the “Worry Monster” – he gobbles up all of our worries!!
The following are some of the topics we have been covering in SESE over the past few weeks…
We discussed our birthday’s and why they are special. We marked our birthday’s by sticking a candle on the correct cupcake.
We measured our height, discussed the colour of our eyes and our hair and compared it to that of others in our class. We discovered that our finger prints make us truly unique. We took a closer look at our finger prints using a magnifying glass!
At the start of the term we met Barnaby Bear. Barnaby visited County Galway during the summer, he wrote us a postcard telling us all about his trip! He has been keeping a watchful eye on us all over the past few weeks!
We started Power hour three weeks ago and we are becoming super readers! We have been learning about the recount writing genre in groups with Ms. Fitzpatrick, Ms. Reville and Ms. Breen – we have enjoyed sharing our news and writing about it.
’10 Things found in a Wizards Pocket’ and ‘Autumn Time’ are the two poems we have been learning!
Our word wall is getting full with tricky words that we have been reading for homework! And we have been covering one sound a week for our spelling tests which we have been doing every Friday!
We have been getting creative, decorating our classroom and the school hall with Autumn landscapes and seasonal trees. We really enjoyed playing Drama games this term, such as, ‘The Keeper of the Keys’. We also got to perform some songs we have been learning by putting on an X-factor show for our friends.
We have been learning number stories in Maths. So far we have learnt lots of different ways to make the numbers 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16. We have played games and used concrete materials to practice different ways of making these numbers.
As Gaeilge we have been covering the themes Mé Féin and Ar Scoil – we have been using lots of new vocabulary and we have learned some great songs as Gaeilge that we even put actions to!
To coincide with the hard work we have been doing over the last few weeks, we have been learning different ways that we can self-assess our work. We have been using thumbs up/thumbs down, traffic lights, talk partners and we have been using De Bono’s ‘thinking hats’ to talk about stories we have read.
