We have had a busy October in 2nd class. Here are some of the fun things that we have been doing!
In art we learned about an artist called Henri Matisse and looked at some of his pictures. Then we ‘painted with scissors’ like he did.
We also learned how to make prints. We made patterns on card using matchsticks and glue. When they were dry we used sponges to apply paint to the patterns and then printed them onto white paper. Then we experimented with different colours.
In Geography we discussed the town of Balbriggan. We talked about all the things there are to see and do in Balbriggan. We talked about some of the shops and businesses in the town and the different people who work in Balbriggan. Then we made posters to show people all of the great things that Balbriggan has to offer.
We learned about 2D and 3D shapes in maths this month. We went on a shape hunt to see if we could find examples of these shapes in the classroom. We made 2D shapes using lollipop sticks. We made 3D shapes using matchsticks and blu-tac.
In science we learned about teeth and healthy eating. We learned that we need our teeth to eat and to speak. We learned about the different types of teeth and about the job that each type does. We learned about how to take care of our teeth properly. We also looked at the food pyramid and learned about why it is important to eat a balanced diet.
