As you are aware our school community is multi-cultural and multi-lingual with many nationalities represented and languages spoken. Recognising and nurturing this cultural and linguistic diversity is essential to our school, to our children and to our community.
Exploring different languages and recognising similarities and differences between their home language and other languages can help develop key language learning skills for all children. In addition, an awareness of the culture and heritage associated with a new language engages children and gives them an appreciation of cultures and customs different to their own.
To develop this cultural and language awareness at our school further, we are asking any family that has unwanted children’s books in a language other than English (including Irish) to donate them to us for our school and classroom libraries. Preferably, these are books that have been gently used and are not damaged. (Please, no adult fiction or magazines at this time.)
These books can be brought into the school from next week – starting on Monday, January 27th. There will be a box at the office to drop them or you can give them to your child to give to their class teacher.
Thank you in advance for any assistance your family can provide.
