Victorious Gaelic Football Team!

There was a real buzz of excitement in the school over the last couple of weeks when our 5th/6th class Gaelic Football team qualified for their first ever Fingal League Final. The final was fixed for the splendid GAA Development Centre in Abbotstown on Thursday 16th May and would see us go up against Hedgestown NS. The Parent Association very generously sponsored new shorts and socks for the school and the team were very appreciative of getting to be fully kitted out for the big day. There was also some brilliant work done by our parents in the lead up to the game with handmade posters and flags being made for our travelling supporters who were cheering on the team in Abbotstown. As for the game itself, the children were a bit nervous beforehand but their coaches Mr Mc Elligott and Mr Garvey assured them that the whole school community was so proud of all that they had achieved so far and to simply go out and give it their all – and this they most certainly did! It was a fascinating first half as Hedgestown took an early lead before Scoil Chormaic replied with some fantastic points and well-worked goals. However, Hedgestown were proving to be a very tough opponent and came back strongly just before half time to take a one point lead into the interval. After getting a much needed drink of water and some oranges for an energy top up, the team were ready for the second half! Their teamwork, encouragement and outstanding skills really came to the fore in the second half and all...

Intercultural Day 2019

Our school community came together recently to host our annual Intercultural Day celebrations on 16th and 17th of May. It was an outstanding success thanks to hard work and preparation by all pupils and staff. Over the two days, our school hall was buzzing with music, dance and culture. The countries represented were: Zimbabwe, the UK, Lithuania, France, Egypt, Peru, China, Romania, Russia, Poland, Italy, Brazil, Australia, USA, Nigeria, Belgium and Canada. Each class performed a song from their chosen country in front of their audience, which included parents, extended family, members of the board of management and classmates.   Displays were laid out with vibrant artwork and projects on food, sport, geography, culture etc. In their classrooms, the children tasted dishes from their classmates’ home countries. Thank you to Ms Corcoran for introducing the assemblies, the students who presented each assembly and to Ms Reilly for organising the rehearsals and music. Thank you to the parents who helped with costumes, attended the assemblies and prepared delicious food. A special mention to our incredible Parents’ Association for not only helping teachers with preparing props and providing refreshments to the audience, but for their hard work on the fabulous display around the stage. We are proud to the diversity of cultures in our school and we look forward to showcasing them again next...

Fresh Air Friday!

Fresh Air Friday takes place in Balbriggan this Friday 15th February and here at Scoil Chormaic CNS we are doing our bit for the community! We are encouraging as many of our children and parents as possible to walk or cycle to school on Friday. With Operation Transformation based in Balbriggan this year, this is a brilliant way to feel part of the buzz by promoting exercise and healthy living. It is also a great way of helping to reduce those harmful car emissions for the day! For those children that travel to school on the main school bus, it will be dropping them off at our old school (in Castlemill) at 8.40 where some teachers and parents will meet them and walk with them up to our school. Other parents and children are welcome to join us in the walk up to the school! The children will go home on the bus as normal at the end of the school day. Looking forward to seeing you all out walking or cycling on Friday! Thank you, The Active School Committee and the Green Schools Committee See PDF...
