We learned about 3D shapes in Maths in February. A 3D shape have sides (faces), edges and vertices. An apex is the highest corner on a 3D shape. If you opened up a 3D shape, you would see the net. In 2nd class, we had learned about the cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and cone. In 3rd class, we have two new 3D shapes – the triangular prism and the square based pyramid.
First, we studied and compared different types of 3D shapes. We looked out for flat faces, curved surfaces, straight and curved edges and how many vertices each shape had.
We used this information to help us play matching card games in our small groups.
We also cut out nets to assemble 3D shapes. This activity was really enjoyable, and we were very proud of our work!
